This is MUBBS V1.1.2 ! The ".2" means this is a "interm" release for NEW SYSOPS JUST SETTING UP A NEW BBS. It's the SAME as V1.1 except for the "userlist" files, "sysop", "E-mail", and "serial" modules. (all updates that happened after V1.1) I added the new "Chat" module, and updated "bbslist" and added "wishlist" just for fun. The MUBBS Application is the SAME as V1.1 ! There was a change in the way we read the userlist after V1.1 was released, so I made up this version so that you don't have to go through the "update process" if you have just started a BBS. (all your users will log in as "new" anyway) Even though this program is set up to run as-is.... THIS IS NOT A "CLICK IT AND I'M A SYSOP" MAC SIMPLE TYPE APPLICATION !! As a matter of fact, there's NO BBS PROGRAM that will EVER be available that you can just click on it and go away. Being a Sysop takes lots of TIME AND EFFORT, so don't think this is gona be easy. You could pay $3000 for a BBS program, but you will still have to spend the SAME amount of time setting it up! You are about to become a "Sysop" of a BBS. Setting up a BBS is NEVER a simple thing, there's too many variables involved. You want your BBS to look different in your own way, you are using a different modem, different modules, etc... The INSTRUCTIONS for MUBBS can be located by running the Application "MUBBS Tools" then look under the "Apple" menu. "MUBBS Quick Start Manual" (a MacWrite file), is provided to get you going quickly but it DOESN'T TELL YOU EVERYTHING! USE "JolliWrite" TO EDIT FILES! (that you are allowed to modify) It works very well. If you use "TeachText" or "Word" it might cause problems! THE MAC SCREEN IS SLOW ON A MAC PLUS, but don't worry, the users get FAST FAST stuff!! TAKE OUT THOSE STUPID INIT's !!!!! (start with a NEW system too!) If you have the "COMM TOOLBOX" mickey mouse upgrade for 6.0.7 installed you need to install a NEW SYSTEM to get rid of it. ****************************************************************** THIS IS NOW SET TO OPERATE FROM THE MAC SCREEN ONLY!!!!! Use "MUBBS Tools" to set the user number to 2 for a single line operation (1 modem and 1 Mac screen = 2 users). ****************************************************************** The MODEM STRINGS are set up for a "basic" Hayes compatable modem. THEY ARE LIMITED and we ARE NOT using "Hardware Carier Detect" !!! YOU MUST USE HARDWARE CARRIER DETECT before your BBS gets popular! (again, read the docs here when you are ready for this) There are GOOD reasons for carrier detect!!, read the docs for more detail. Your modem cable MAY not be the right one. You MAY need to change the modem strings if your modem is not exactly Hayes compatable! (like using just "ATH" instead of "ATH0").
